CeRam-Kote in the Aviation Industry

CeRam-Kote 54® was a natural choice to protect areas of the weapons’ bay of the F-22  Raptor.

Critical areas within the bay exposed to high heat and abrasion from missile launches are now protected with CeRam-Kote 54®.

CeRam-Kote 54® is a thin-film, spray applied
and air cured ceramic epoxy system engineered to provide abrasion and corrosion
protection to all metals, composites, plastics
and concrete. It resists caustics as well as most acids, petroleum distillates and solvents. CeRam-Kote 54® is an environmentally compliant material. It contains no lead, chrome or isocyanates and bears a VOC rating of 1.63 lbs/gal or 198 g/l. This is well under EPA requirements and makes it a very attractive alternative for aerospace, industrial and support equipment as well as marine applications.

These properties combine to make CeRam-Kote 54® a natural choice for use on aircraft leading edges where wind and rain erosion occurs. CeRam-Kote 54® is approved for use on the leading edges of F-15, F-16 and C-130 aircraft and several areas of the F-22. Information on approval and use can be found in the specific aircraft technical publications.

BF Goodrich Aerospace published a repair procedure mandating the use of CeRam-Kote 54® on several models of Boeing, Airbus and Bombardier aircraft engine cowl doors. Numerous commercial aircraft are utilizing the coating in a variety of other areas to include reverse thruster panel edges, aircraft main entry doors, landing gear door edges and other high abrasion and wind erosion areas.
