Performance Profile: Workboats

Workboats in the Gulf of Mexico are critical support vehicles for the Oil and Gas Industry. Workboats are used to ferry personnel and equipment on a daily basis. Without daily deliveries, some operations would be stopped while waiting on supplies. The current shortage of workboats creates a very high demand resulting in very little time for maintenance and repairs. Previous coating systems required as many as five days to apply.

Solution:

CeRam-Kote 54® was selected for its one-day application. CeRam-Kote 54®'s one-coat, two-pass system allows the contractor to coat the workboat hull in one day.

Three 100-foot aluminum workboat hulls were coated by different independent applicators. Each hull was white-metal blasted and CeRam-Kote 54® applied directly to the blasted surface from the keel to the waterline.

After 30 days, one vessel was placed in dry dock for inspection. The area of the hull coated with CeRam-Kote 54® was coated with barnacles. The barnacles were scraped off easily and there was no damage to CeRam-Kote 54® or the hull area it was protecting.
